How much revenue can SEO blogs generate for you?

As a beginner or even an experienced business owner, is it worth diving into writing blog articles? When it comes to content marketing, blog posts are often the first type of content discussed due to their perceived usefulness.

But how much revenue does it generate? How does it change the traffic to your site, and after accounting for costs, how much profit can it bring you?

Although the calculations are largely estimates—since every business is different and the profit per conversion varies—I’ll attempt the impossible in this article and try to outline how much profit SEO blogs could generate for your business.

What is SEO Blog?

Running a search engine optimized (SEO) blog means writing and editing blog posts in a way that makes it easier for search engine algorithms (primarily Google) to interpret them. The goal is to rank higher on search engine results pages (SERPs) and thereby get into the view of potential customers.

To get a rough idea of whether starting a professional blog on your site is worthwhile, consider the following:

  • How many visitors does your site receive per month?
  • How many of these visitors convert/make a purchase?
  • What is your monthly revenue from customers coming from your website?

How much web traffic does SEO blogs generate?

Let’s say you have 100 people visiting your website daily, and 1% of them convert. That means 1 person will purchase from you, book an appointment, or order your service.

This 1 person represents 100 EUR in daily revenue for you, so if we calculate with 30 days in a month, that’s 3000 EUR in revenue from your website per month.

Thus, you have 3,000 monthly visitors and 30 purchases.

Now comes the estimation

One of the reasons for starting a blog is to bring more traffic to your site. This also means an increase in conversions, and consequently, an increase in revenue from your website.

If you and your marketing colleague set a goal to double the traffic within six months, that would mean increasing from 3,000 to 6,000 monthly visitors, and 60 customers will purchase from you.

As for the revenue, the previous 3000 EUR increased to 6000 EUR.

How much investment does an SEO Blog require?

It’s also necessary to consider the costs to see if blogging is worthwhile for you.

For the scenario outlined earlier to happen, regular content creation is needed during this six-month period. If we count one article per week, that would mean 24 articles written over six months.

SEO copywriting prices

If you hire an SEO copywriter to create the articles, the costs can vary widely. Prices range from 100 to 300 EUR per article on the market, depending on the specificity of the topic, the added expertise of the copywriter (e.g., SEO), the length of the article, etc.

For simplicity, let’s calculate with a price of 100 EUR per article. This represents a monthly cost of 400 EUR, which, when deducted from the additional 3000 EUR revenue generated, still leaves you with a strong profit margin.

After deducting the costs of SEO blogging, the example shows that one blog post generates an additional 650 EUR in revenue.

Of course, you can write the articles yourself, without outsourcing to an SEO copywriter. However, in that case, it’s worth calculating the value of your time to determine whether investing in blogging is worth it.

The unpredictability of SEO blogging

What are the potential inaccuracies in the above example?

  • Not every blog post generates the same amount of traffic, meaning their revenue-generating potential varies.
  • It doesn’t consider other website content, such as videos, images, or subpages, which also convince customers.
  • It doesn’t account for time—we considered a six-month period with blog posts starting from scratch. However, a blog post can continue to generate traffic to your site even after 1-2 years, especially if it covers an evergreen topic that always offers valuable knowledge to your target audience.
  • It doesn’t factor in whether this was achieved organically or with the help of ads.
  • It doesn’t consider that the average return on investment for content marketing is 8-12 months—so if you post your first article, you won’t be invoicing hundreds of thousands more by the weekend.

SEO blog advantages

These are the non-monetary benefits that also contribute to your business’s growth, just like increasing revenue:

  • Targeted communication with your audience: While there are many platforms available today for customer communication, blog posts allow you to summarize and detail topics that solve your customers’ problems in 1,500-2,000 words.
  • Education: You can provide valuable knowledge amid a sea of false information.
  • Establishing credibility and professional status
  • Building trust and relationships between your business and customers
  • Increasing the value of your product/service: Publishing blog posts humanizes your company, provides knowledge, saves time for your customers, and in the end, results in them not caring about the price because they trust you and want to buy from you.

SEO blogging is part of a long-term strategy that doesn’t try to force itself and its products on the customer but aims to earn their attention.

Appearing as a fair, reliable, and high-quality service provider, and gaining customer loyalty with valuable, educational content.

Of course, you can’t buy bread at the store with earned trust and appreciative readers. That’s why it’s worth working with a knowledgeable SEO copywriter to develop a reliable strategy where blog posts can benefit you and your business in the most ideal way.
